How does reviewer pay work?

Every approved Site Burn pays you by the site owner's rating of how useful it was: 5★ $2.00, 4★ $1.50, 3★ $1.00, 2★ $0.50, 1★ $0. Pay goes out monthly by PayPal once you reach $10.

The rates

When a site owner approves your burn, they rate how useful it was. That rating sets your pay for the burn:

  • 5★: $2.00
  • 4★: $1.50
  • 3★: $1.00
  • 2★: $0.50
  • 1★: $0

Useful means honest, specific and on task. Harsh feedback that tells the owner why they'd lose a sale is the most useful thing you can give them. A 1 or 2 star rating needs a written reason from the owner, and we look at those ratings, so a blunt but useful burn isn't punished.

When a burn pays

  • Approved and rated: paid at the rating's rate. If the owner changes the rating before the money goes out, your pay follows it.
  • Not decided within 7 days: approved automatically and paid at the 4★ rate.
  • Not paid: practice (qualification) burns, rejected burns, and burns approved while your account is in cooldown. Ad ratings earn Heat, not cash.

Getting paid

  1. 1Open Earnings in the reviewer area and enter the email on your PayPal account. No PayPal? It's free to open one.
  2. 2Your balance builds as burns are approved. Earnings shows every burn and what it paid.
  3. 3Once a month, on or shortly after the 1st, we send your whole balance to your PayPal if it's $10 or more. Less than $10 rolls over to the next month. You get an email when it's sent.

Change your PayPal email any time on the Earnings page; it takes effect on the next run.

Where we can pay

Anywhere PayPal can receive US dollars. Pay is sent in USD; PayPal may convert it to your local currency at its own rate.

Taxes

You review as an independent contractor, so taxes on what you earn are yours to handle. If you're in the US and earn $600 or more in a year, we'll ask you for a W-9 so we can issue a 1099. This isn't tax advice; check with a tax professional if you're unsure.

And Heat?

Heat, levels, badges, priority access and free burn credits all still work on top of pay. See How do Heat and rewards work?
