BurnTest.io

For SaaS

Watch a real prospect try to understand your product — and sign up.

You know what your product does. Your landing page assumes the visitor does too. A burn is someone in your target role reading the page cold, trying to start a trial, and saying out loud where the words stopped making sense.

  • First burn free, no card
  • Video + transcript, usually within 1–2 days
  • Bad burn? Replaced free

What breaks conversion on SaaS pages

The headline is a category name ("The modern platform for revenue teams") instead of an outcome. The pricing page hides the number behind "Talk to sales". The signup asks for a company size before it has shown anything. The demo video is four minutes long and the visitor has thirty seconds. Feature grids list what the product has; nobody on the page says what it does for the person reading.

Trust breaks differently in SaaS: no logos, or logos that don't match the visitor's company size; a "free trial" that turns out to need a card; a security page that 404s.

What a burn reveals

The exact sentence where comprehension failed. "Wait, is this for me or for my IT team?" The moment they open pricing and what they expected to see. Whether the signup form felt proportionate. What they typed into the search bar looking for an answer your nav didn't offer.

Every burn comes with a transcript you can paste into your product channel and a Fire Score across clarity, trust, navigation, offer and conversion readiness. Three burns on the same URL produce an Insight Report ranking the fixes.

How to brief for SaaS

Describe the buyer, not the user, if they are different people. Give the reviewer a realistic reason to be on the page ("your team just missed a deadline because of spreadsheet errors"). Ask them to reach the point where they'd have to enter a work email, and stop there. Ask for desktop unless you sell to people who buy on their phone.

Three briefs you can paste in

The burn form has three fields: who the customer is, what they should try, and one closing question. Copy, edit, submit.

Brief 1

Ideal customer

An operations manager at a 20–80 person company who currently runs this process in spreadsheets and is mildly annoyed by it.

Task

Work out in two minutes whether this tool is for a company like yours, then try to start a free trial. Stop when you'd have to enter a work email.

Closing question

What would you tell your boss this product does, in one sentence?

Brief 2

Ideal customer

A founder of a small agency evaluating three tools this week, on a laptop, in a hurry.

Task

Find the price for a team of five and figure out whether there's a free plan. Say what you assumed before you found it.

Closing question

What was missing from the page that you'd need before paying?

Brief 3

Ideal customer

A developer who is skeptical of marketing pages and wants docs.

Task

Find out how the product integrates with what you already use, and whether there's an API. Then try to sign up.

Closing question

At what point did the page feel like it was written for someone other than you?

How it works
