Honest comparison
BurnTest vs AI website audits
We run an AI audit too — a free Fire Score and a $5 full version. So this comparison isn't 'AI bad'. It's about what a model can see, what it can't, and when each is worth your time.
- First burn free, no card
- Video + transcript, usually within 1–2 days
- Bad burn? Replaced free
| Criterion | BurnTest | AI website audits |
|---|---|---|
| What it reads | A real person's attempt to buy: screen, voice, hesitation, what they typed, what they skipped | Your page's HTML, copy, structure, sometimes a screenshot; some tools add Lighthouse-style technical checks |
| Speed | 24–48 hours (instant AI read included immediately) | Seconds to a minute |
| Cost | First burn free; packs from $5 a burn, one-time | Often free or a monthly subscription; varies widely by tool |
| Trust and emotion | Explicit: 'these reviews look fake', 'that's too much for shampoo' | Inferred from patterns in copy and layout; a model can't feel doubt |
| Reproducibility | Each burn is a different person; three make a pattern | Deterministic-ish; the same page gets a similar score every time |
| Best first step | When you've already found the page that leaks | When you want a quick sanity check before spending on people |

AI website audits is good at
- A first pass on a new page before anyone sees it
- Catching obvious copy and structure problems in seconds
- Checking many pages cheaply
- Technical issues a person wouldn't notice
Use it when: You want a cheap, instant sanity check — run our free Fire Score, or the $5 full audit, or any other tool — before you spend a burn.
BurnTest is good at
- Hearing whether a real person trusts you
- Finding the point where they actually gave up, not where a model guesses they would
- Testing photos, reviews, price anchoring and other things that live in the visitor's gut
- Getting a quote you can put in front of your team
Use it when: The audit came back 'fine' and the page still doesn't convert. That gap is a human problem, and a human finds it.
Get my free burnWhat a model actually sees
An AI audit reads your page's copy and structure and scores it against a rubric. Ours scores clarity, trust, navigation, offer and conversion readiness and names what to look at first. It's genuinely useful for the obvious problems: no price on the page, three competing buttons, a headline that says what the product is but not who it's for.
What it can't do is doubt. It doesn't notice that every review is a first name and an initial. It doesn't feel that $89 is a lot for shampoo. It doesn't get frustrated when the size chart opens in a new tab. It never types 'shipping' into your search bar. Those are the things that decide most purchases, and they only show up when a person is on the page.
How we use both
Every human burn on BurnTest comes with an instant AI read of the same page, so you can see where the model and the person disagree. In our experience the model rates 'medium' the thing the human walks away over. Start with the free Fire Score. When the number comes back and you still don't know what to change, that's the burn.
The AI-only version is, yes — and we say so on it. The Fire Score on a human burn is different: it's scored from what a real person said and did, with each finding tied to a timestamp in their recording.
