Recording a burn in the browser

Before you start

Read the brief: who the site owner's customer is, the task, and the closing question. Close anything private in other tabs; the recording captures the tab or window you choose.

Recording

1. 1Press Start recording. Allow the microphone when asked; your voice is the whole point.
2. 2Chrome asks what to share. If the site can be embedded, it's a one-click "share this tab". If not, you'll pick the browser window that shows the site (see Why Chrome shows a share dialog), or use the BurnTest Recorder extension to skip the dialog entirely.
3. 3Use the site as the brief asks. Say everything: what you expect, what confuses you, when you'd leave.
4. 4Stop after you've finished the task or given up; the timer shows when you've passed the two-minute minimum.

After recording

Preview the recording, write your notes, and submit. The upload happens in the background; keep the tab open until it says done.

Browsers

Chrome and Edge work best. Firefox and Safari can record but don't always capture tab audio. Phones use the mobile flow.
