BurnTest Recorder privacy policy

What the extension does

When you start a burn on burntest.io, the site hands the extension the burn's ID and the address of the page to review. The extension opens that page in a new tab. Nothing is recorded until you press the extension's icon (or its keyboard shortcut) on that tab.

While recording, it captures the video and audio of that one tab and your microphone, and mixes them into a single WebM file plus a small audio-only file used for transcription. Recording stops when you press the icon again, press the shortcut, or close the tab.

What it collects

The screen and audio recording you deliberately make, the burn ID and page address burntest.io gave it, and the length of the recording. That is all. It does not read your browsing history, bookmarks, passwords, form data or the contents of any other tab, and it does not run on any page other than the tab you choose to record.

The recording is held in your browser's memory only until the upload finishes, then discarded locally.

Where the data goes

Recordings are uploaded directly to BurnTest's storage (Vercel Blob) under your BurnTest reviewer account, using the same login cookie as the burntest.io website. They are then handled exactly like a recording made on the website: visible to the site owner who requested the burn and to BurnTest staff, and processed by our AI providers for transcription and scoring, as described in the main BurnTest privacy policy.

The extension talks only to burntest.io and to BurnTest's storage. It sends nothing to any other server, and it contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code.

Permissions it asks for

tabCapture — record the tab you pick, with its audio. activeTab — know which tab you clicked the icon on. tabs — open the site in a new tab and bring you back to burntest.io when the upload is done. offscreen — Chrome requires a hidden page to run the recorder. storage — remember the burn in progress and the burntest.io address. Microphone — your voice narration, asked for once by Chrome.

It has host access to burntest.io only, so the website can start a burn and the extension can upload with your login. It has no access to any other website.

Retention and deletion

Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored locally. Uploaded recordings live in your BurnTest account and are covered by the BurnTest privacy policy and terms; you can ask for their deletion by emailing support@burntest.io.
